Got A Cold? 4 Remedies That Will Help You Feel Much Better

If you have a cold, it could last approximately seven days to two weeks. How long it lasts in your case depends on your current health. For example, if you are already not healthy due to a disease, the cold will affect you much worse than if you are healthy. No matter how long, however, there are things you can do to help you feel better while going through your cold, four of which are listed below.

Drink Water

Keeping your body hydrated is very important while you have a cold. This is because you may not feel like drinking anything and this will cause you to become dehydrated. Water will also help loosen any congestion you may have in your throat and chest.

Along with water you can drink juice or a clear soup broth. Another thing that will work well is warming water and adding lemon and honey to the water.

Help with Sore Throat

Having a sore throat during a cold is common because of coughing. To help you can mix about a 1/4 teaspoon of salt into a glass of water. Gargle with this solution but do not swallow it. You can do this throughout the day as this will only temporarily sooth your throat.

There is spray medication that you can purchase at a drug store. This spray will temporarily numb your throat to help with pain. In most cases you will spray your throat two or three times. Read the instructions on the bottle on how to properly use it.

Rest

One of the most important things you can do is to get as much rest as you can. This is especially true if the cold keeps you up at night due to coughing or a runny or stuffy nose. If possible, take naps during the day if you are up at night.

Rest is important as your body makes more white blood cells while you are sleeping. These cells then attack bacteria and viruses that are in your body. This helps boost your immune system. If you do not get enough rest, your immune system will go down and will not be able to protect your body from bacteria and viruses.

Ease a Stuffy Nose

A stuffy noise is a common symptom of a cold. In many cases the stuffiness gets worse when you lie down at night to go to bed, making it hard to sleep. To help with this you can purchase saline nasal sprays and drops. This will also help relieve chest congestion. To use the medication, you will hold one nostril shut, hold your head back, and then either spray or drop the nasal medication into your noise. Keep your head back for a few minutes to allow the medication to work. You will then do the same with the other side of your nose.

In some cases a cold can lead to a bacterial infection, such as an infection in the ear or throat. Because of this visit a premier urgent care office if you have the cold longer than a couple of weeks.
