About Me

Creating A Solid Medical Plan For quite some time, I wasn't sure what I was going to do about my failing health. I knew that I had a few longterm health problems, but resolving the issues felt really difficult. Fortunately, a friend of mine mentioned going to the doctor, so I began looking for medical alternatives. I began working with one doctor who suggested a course of medications and a few lifestyle changes, and I was really enthusiastic about the progress I was making. I know that making health and medical changes helped the quality of my life, and I know it could help you too. Check out this blog for more information.

Choosing A Hearing Aid For An Active Lifestyle

If you live an active lifestyle and play a variety of sports, then you probably need hearing aids that will match your lifestyle. This is possible due to the many different kinds of aids on the market. You will need to understand some of the various options out there, so keep reading to learn what you should be looking for.

Soft Molds

You will have some options when it comes to the type of aid that you want in the way that it fits inside your ear. When it comes to an active lifestyle, you want to avoid the behind the ear varieties that can easily fly loose when you play sports. This leaves the in the ear types and you can choose from in the canal options and ones that sit just outside the ear canal. And, these aids should be made with a soft mold and silicone is the best option.

Silicone molds allow for ear movement and they prevent damage to the ear if you happen to be injured while playing sports. They also minimize pressure within the ear that can make it uncomfortable to move and remain active.

Keep in mind that the silicone part of the hearing aid will only fit correctly if the original mold is formed right. So, make sure to work with your audiologist to have the mold formed correctly. This means making arrangements for a proper fitting once the hearing aid is made for you. You also want to alert your hearing professional right away if you feel that the aid is starting to come loose.

Moisture Resistance

All hearing aids are moisture resistance to some degree due to their use and their position within the body. However, some are more resistant than others. A water resistant aid will help to keep sweat and rain from interfering with the ability of the aid to function properly. Most aids are water resistant, so speak with your audiologist about the ones that are going to work best under sweaty conditions.

Also, your hearing specialist can direct you towards products like sweat covers that can help to keep the aid well protected from moisture during sporting events.

If you want to seriously expose your hearing aid to water, then you can go for the waterproof varieties. However, these aids are typically made with a solid outer shell. This shell must be sealed off to prevent leakage into the device, so silicone is not an option here.
